in Credit cards
Hi,
I am looking for some advice, I had an egg card for years which, like a lot of others, was frozen for no reason in about 2007 and I have paid the minimum on since, I informed them that they had part of my date of birth wrong several times and they said they would amend it, they have now sold my account to Barclays and the DOB remains incorrect!!!
I have struggled lately and when totting up I have repaid this more than twice given the !!!!take interest rate, here is the interesting bit though. I have 2 credit histories, one with only this account on under the incorrect DOB details and one with the right DOB with my regular correct credit history. I am sorely tempted to completely ignore the account and let them lodge a CCJ against the person who does not exist?
What would you do and what could the consequences be of said ignoring ?

Credit histories have no relevance to a CCJ, as if there is a default, it will be applied to the DoB provided to the court. Where there is room for confusion, it would be up to the data subject to complain and have it corrected, but it would appear under the DPA that your incorrect DoB would be for a different person. Therefore, this will not be linked to you unless you do something to make it so (by correcting the error). CRA's have been savvy lately in getting their personal data enquirers to 'prove' the DoB by supplying acceptable proofs. Since I never provide the same DoB to anyone, I probably have 20 or more 'identities' but the reasons were for my protection, not their data accuracy.0

So to clarify, I don't pay , they can't screw my credit rating?0

If you don't pay and they don't take you to court at some point they or a debt collector or tracing agent may link it to your credit file and so it could appear at some point.
If you don't pay and they take you to court and successfully obtain a CCJ - then in all likelihood the CCJ will be marked on your correct credit file (unless you pay off the CCJ in full within a month).A smile enriches those who receive without making poorer those who giveor "It costs nowt to be nice"0
