Changing Direct Debit date
Hi,
Hope I've posted this in the right place.
Just bought a new car on finance through GMAC, they have the direct debit date on 17th of each month, considering I get paid on 27th its gonna mean moving money about.
They want £25 service charge to amend the date.
Is there a way round of this, can I set up a standing order on 1st of every month and a letter/phone call advising them the DD has been cancelled and payment is now earlier?
Think £25 is a bit steep to change a date.
Any advice would be appreciated.

You'll need to ask them. They may want the fee whether they change the date or you do. And they might be unhappy if it's not a DD0

My first payment was due today - as I collected the car on the 24th Jan.
Pay day is the 25th so I asked them to change it by 2 days and they agreed at no charge. It wasn't GM though. I was expecting a charge so pleasantly surprised.0 -

Just keep the money in the bank from the next pay day for the payment due after that. Or are you saying you don't have the mental discipline not to spend it if its sat there?0
