Had an ebay question sent to me about my impreza this morning, it read as follows :
will buy your item let me know your reserve also i need to know if your item has the same specs, same options like this, take a look, here is the link: ****://merchant-s***s.by.ru/ebaystore
(Changed the link abit to disable it)
Stupidly i clicked the link and had to sign in to my ebay.
The link went knowhere really, but they got my ebay password.
They sent 26 messages off my ebay saying the same with that link in it.
So had to change my password sharpish, but worried now about what this scammer know about me and my ebay and what they can use my account for.
Anyone had the same happen to them?
P.S. DONT CLICK ANY LINKS SENT IN EBAY QUESTIONS

According to the Daily mirror yesterday scammers hit ebay big time over the weekend. They sent out phishing mails, as above and (I have to admit to being surprised here) and had a considerable number of people send them full log in details!
Once they hacked the accounts they blanket hit sellers with questions and offers to buy high end goods off ebay, and to sell high end goods off ebay. According to the story the newsgroups were full of people slowly coming to the realisation that they had been caught, some turned to ebay and ebay say they cannot be involved with deals that were conducted outside the auction site.
EDIT: Finally managed to find a link:

I was bombarded with loads of messages to go to wholesale sites. I don't think it was any more sinister than having to delete stupid messages. E-bay sent me warning about conducting business with unregistered people.NO to pasty tax We won!!!! Just shows that people power works! Don't be apathetic to your cause!0

On the ebay community forums there are threads indicating that the community's 'hijack taskforce' has been on red alert in the last few days and has had its work cut out reporting hijacked accounts before people start buying expensive goods off them.
(This is a group of ebay users who do this for the good of the community, not because it's their job!)My TV is broken!

Hi has anyone had a situation where a buyer has said they've sent a postal order and accused you of cashing it, when infact nothing has been sent. I have a buyer who is threatening to call the cops and i've received NOTHING!!, i had heard that there are postal order scams on online auction sites....0

I had major problems with postal orders a few years back and actually stopped taking them for a while. I don't think I was being scammed, and if I was it was for very small amounts, mostlty sub £5 but the time and effort involved in dealing with buyers was completely out of proportion to the costs. Like you I had two or three buyers claim to have sent me a postal order, which I never received. I did my standard 'olease use your counterfoil to cancel the PO and resend' and had nothing but abuse back about how I was a scamming thief for cashing their PO and not sending the goods.
In the end I wimped out in 2 cases and sent their goods anyway as their feedback was good, but I resisted the third and he was finally suspended having picked up several negs on the way.I’m a Forum Ambassador and I support the Forum Team on the eBay, Auctions, Car Boot & Jumble Sales, Boost Your Income, Praise, Vents & Warnings, Overseas Holidays & Travel Planning , UK Holidays, Days Out & Entertainments boards. With todays postal orders, the post office can tell if the postal order has been cashed and where it was cashed.
So tell your buyer to get in touch with royalmail or go into there post office and pick up the relevant forms, fill them in.
As long as you havent had them and cashed them, tell hiim to go to police, you have nothing to hide. Very much doubt they will get involved, civil matter unless they have been stolen in transit.
Stick to your guns, but be polite, thats the risk of using postal orders.
I will only accept them if the buyer asks me before they buy, i never give it as an option, and i tell them the risks of sending, and to use recorded delivery for there piece of mind (ok RD is yeah right)Mansion TV. Avoid at all cost's :j0 -

Actually you never, ever get suspended by eBay for having too many negatives. It's the NPB or UID as they are now called that count. Three UIDs from different sellers will suspend or NARU someone. That's why it so important to notify eBay of every UID so others aren't victims of them later. Same goes for reporting fraud to the Police so that they get caught before they scam too many people."Money is truthful. If a person speaks of their honour, make sure they pay in cash."0 -
If you go to https://www.downloads.com you can download software that will reveal hidden URLS....for example: If you receive an e-mail claiming to be from Ebay, Paypal etc and click on the link in your e-mail directing you to the site, with the software enabled click on the address in the address bar (eg: https://www.ebay.co.uk) and it will reveal a different URL if its a fake site, if its legitimate it will stay the same.
When I get time I will get the name of the software....its saved me many times and its free.Lightbulb moment - 20/02/07
