best bank to put £5000

hi i have just got a some of money for a claim and was wondering where is the best bank to invest it. I am paying of my student overdrafts and my banks have been HSBC who i hate and the royal bank. i'd like to stick it in a bank for maybe a year but would like to be able to access it as i want it to be a deposit on a wee home soonish.any helps good thanks

Put £3,000 into a Direct ISA with NS&I. You'll get 5.80% tax free interest, guaranteed to be 0.55% above the base rate until 2008. Do that now and put the other £2000 into a decent Instant Access account (Yorkshire Building Society's Internet Saver is pretty good). After April 5 (beginning of new tax year), deposit the other £2000 into your Direct ISA.0
