Planning a chairty event

hello, I am at present in the process of organising an event trip for elderly people who are in homes, and was woundering about any legal issies involved in this. I have at present dont have any charities in my mind to donate 100% profit to and was woundering when chosen the chairity would they have to be involved in any part of this. Can I just go ahead and organise the event or do I have to set anything off. this is going to be a one-off event

People are far more likely to get involved and donate if they know which charity you're trying to raise money for. The British Red Cross, for example, has to be very careful with its name and logo, as the red cross is an international neutral symbol, so if you were to raise money for BRC, you would need to get in touch first. But it's not all bad news - they do give you loads of support, so it's always worth getting in touch.

Agree with 3plus1 that people prefer to know WHICH charity you are raising money for, BUT if you are raising money for a specific charity you do need to talk to them first - I work for a small charity and our Trustees are responsible for what's done in their name, which can be kind of hard if you find out a week before an event that your name is being blazoned all over the publicity ...
Plus if we know beforehand we can send leaflets if appropriate, and so on.
