JSA Couples Claim Help

I have just been made unemployed and i am claiming JSA. My circumstance has changed and my partr has moved in with me. He has just finished a temp contract and is now unemployed too.
Will we need to claim as a couple even though we have just moved in together?
I see the amount of JSA for couples is £105.95 a week. Do we get that each or as a couple? I cant seem to find the answer to this anywhere
thanks

Yes, you need to claim a joint one and its £105.95 for a couple. You get the approx equivalent of £53 a week each to live on...0

that seems highly unfair as i am claiming as a single person at the moment and get more money and they send you a letter saying that is what the government say you can live on.
You would think its two people so double the money. I am basically being penalised for being in love

The thinking is that it does not cost as much for 2 people to live in one establishment as to live under seperate roofs. There is only one house, for starters and it will not take twice the gas/electricity etc when your partner moves in with you.0

Thats not really true now my partner has moved in i will be using twice the gas and electric and buying more food0 -
How does it use twice the elctricity and gas? Even if you have to heat an extra room and do another load of washing it wouldn't cost twice as much, and it doesn't take any more fuel to cook for two.
Anyway, I am not arguing that it is easy to live on this, just explaining the thinking behind the JSA rate.0 -
It doesn't cost twice as much for two people to live together as two people living separately. Anyway, think positively - it's only a temporary situation. I'm sure one or both of you will soon be able to find another job.DMP Mutual Support Thread member 244

The couple's rate only applies to income based JSA, if you have both paid the required NICs you will get the full rate each for the first 6 months.0
