Credit Search When Changing Supplier

I have contacted BG about transferring to them via uswitch. However I see they have carried out a search on my credit file. They have got application type as utility. Does this type of search affect my credit rating like a search for a loan or credit card.

By 'contacting' BG do you mean 'applied' to BG for their service?

Surely it would be quite normal for any company, considering offering credit terms to a customer, to check if they were creditworthy.

It is not the same problem as someone taking out loans/HP/credit card agreements with lots of different companies; you can only get one supplier for gas and one for electricity.(unless you have more than one property in your name)
