Should I pay gas balance
Hi, we've just moved into a house 2 months ago, first time in a house of our own so we are getting used to stuff. It's a 4 bedroom house and we have been using the heating and gas fire quite a bit. We've just got the first bill through for gas, it's from 30th dec to 20th feb £266.67 which seems quite a lot to me, but that's not really what I'm worried about. I pay £80 a month DD so the outstanding balance on this bill is £186.67, with the way it works should I pay this off now or will the summer months compensate for the high winter ones. So should I just let it run? It's just I don't want a bill in 8 months time for £600-700. I guess my question really relates to how much the gas consumption drops in spring /summer. Thanks

I would hold fire for the moment. See how the balance changes over the Spring and Summer but if you're concerned about a high bill later then it might be wise to save a bit towards it each month, just in case.
Don't forget that your outstanding debit balance is effectively a free loan so don't be too keen to pay it off until you need to.

Bill based on actual readings or estimates? £120pm is not exceptional during the winter quarter. No free lunch, and no free laptop
