Definitely get her done. The noise, if you don't, can be really infuriating, as well as her behaviour around the boys. Neutered toms can become sexually (though unproductively) active.Put the kettle on.0

My five indoor girlies have all been spayed so for the health benefits and to prevent her 'calling' I would have her spayed. £100 sounds expensive unless you've been quoted for a midline rather than flank spay. My vet charges about £60 for flank and £90 for midline. Saying that, there are low cost options and ssome charities like CP offer neutering vouchers. There are also some low cost vet groups around. I've just booked a foster dog in with an Easipetcare branch following a friend's recommendation. My vet charges £170 for a <10kg dog neuter whereas Easipetcare will be £40 (March special offer) which is amazing value.
My vet is great value too, then, as Lula was spayed midline (being a pedigree show cat) and it was £40-odd for either midline or flank, no difference in price0 -
Completely agree with everyone on here, get her speyed. If anything happened to you and you could not keep her, she may have to go to be re-homed and they may not be as consciencious as you. Also if you died (sorry) and she went to someone else or a charity, they would not know if she was speyed or not. Sadly you have to prepare for worst case scenario (yes, you may wonder how I sleep at night!). As others have said, she will be much more settled when speyed.
I just dropped my 8 month old at the vet today to be speyed. Am waiting for the call to say I can get her as I miss her so much already!
I have also fostered countless lost/abandoned/unwanted stray pregnant cats and kittens that no-one wants. I've also known of fairly far gone pregnant cats to be speyed (aborted) by charities because they know they simply can't home the kittens.
I would also definitely get her microchipped too whilst she is being speyed.Less stuff, more life, love, laughter and cats!
Even if I'm on the shopping threads, it doesn't mean I'm buying! Sometimes it's good to just look and then hit the CLOSE button!0 -
I've booked her in for a couple of weeks away. I honestly thought the tom cat was now never interested and the queen wouldn't come into heat without it.
now i know i'll certainly get her done
And the £100 is for spaying chipping and de fleaing (grrr!!! whole nother topic)0 -
Have you looked online for de-flea treatments? The vets are such a rip off. I've just started using Advantage since they took it off prescription - the vet charges for it were extortionate but I now get from Petmeds and save a fortune. (Other websites are also available
) Frontline is no longer effective in my household. Oh and I also get drontal wormers from same website.

Online is deffo moneysaving. I am trialing Programme currently which is meant to sterilise the fleas - as just putting `spot-on' stuff (even Advantage) isn't dealing with matters sufficiently & tbh spraying & boiling all furniture & fixtures is really not for me (well I tried my best but it's not something I want to even consider doing regularly & I have 2 semi-housecats so the blighters could hide out any/everywhere!0

It's good you're getting her neutered. My MIL has 2 house cats, a neutered male and an un neutered female and she thought the same as you but the female does come into season and wakes everyone up calling! Neutering also has health benefits.0

I am pleased you're getting your little lady neutered. There will be no kitty accidents ever!
As for the coming into heat thing - my vet told me that it's actually something to do with the amount of sunlight as in the length of daylight there is which triggers it. That's why springtime is the season associated with baby animals! Also unaltered tom cats can smell a lady cat on heat from over a mile away and they will follow their noses until they get to the source of that smell. Thank God us mere humans have a very much inferior sense of smell, hehe.0 -
My Daisy's a house cat & is spayed & micro-chipped,just in case she gets out.The ASSISI where she came from, neauter & spay most,if not all,of the animals they rehome & have a 'deal' with a local vet for the work.
Start there on Monday so I can't wait..0 -
I didn't even know vets still neutered females from the belly. Learn something everyday on here :rotfl:
I was £60 for my female cat to be neutered, and yes she most certainly WILL go in heat, my oldest cat is female & indoors, and she went into heat every ruddy 3 weeks from 6+ plus, the idiot receptionist at my vets said I had to wait 4weeks before they would do it after her last season, but she was doing it every 2-3 weeks, in the end I just lied as I couldn't bear it anymore!0
