Stamp Duty!!!

  • So stamp duty is include in the price of the house or not?

Stamp duty is paid on top of the price of the house.
And why should we pay for it after all we get taxed the hell out of us, all of our lifes.

If we didn't pay tax in the form of Stamp Duty, you can bet your life the government (whoever's in charge) would just find another tax to raise to replace the lost revenue.

I thought it was only buyers that paid stamp duty, and that it was 1% of the purchase price?

You are 100% wrong to think that.

Stamp duty Rates are 0%, 1%, 3%, 4% at present.

  • Kurt, I'm assuming you don't think that the Conservatives are going to get into power and abolish stamp duty?! It ain't gonna happen!

We have moved twice in the last 4 years and have just worked out that one tenth of our now hefty mortgage is made up of stamp duty payments - it's a horrible tax, but an easy way for the Govt to raise money and I've never heard any political party talk about abolishing it. Why would they when we all carry on moving and paying it?
You'll never see a rainbow if you don't first put up with the rain . . . :happylove
