The Old Lady Gryst bank standing order

An elderly friend has a standing order to her bank (Barclays) to: 'The Old Lady Gryst'. She's shy about asking what it might be in case she has unwittingly signed a form, and doesn't want to create a fuss with her bank. It would help her to know what it might be.
Can anybody help?

  • Sorry no. But I just googled it and there seem to be quite a few people looking to find out what it is as they too have a standing order set up as does your friend.

Ever wonder about those people who spend £2 apiece on those little bottles of Evian water? Try spelling Evian backward.
  • Hi,

How about going to online banking and cancelling it. The bank will barely know, ie no fuss! Then all you have to do is wait for 'The Old Lady Gryst' to send a letter! Thats if it is meant to be getting money!

If she can't tell from her statements, she could always ask the bank when the SO started, that might give her a clue what it is.
  • My friend is 'elderly' and to suggest she 'goes to online banking' seems to be a bridge too far. It's difficult enough for her to understand the tv remote. I'm hoping the wider community might know without her asking the bank and, as yet, there's no Power of Attorney involved.
