Listening to radio 4 this morning, British Gas results. The BBC announced that BG increased their prices by 16% last august but reduced their prices by 5% jan 12. I've checked my bills and I'm on e7 and standard day rate. My e7 tariff increased from 4.54p to 5.96p 32%! and day rate increased from 13.671 to 16.746 22%! I enquired about the 5% decrease and was told it doesn't apply to my tariffs? Could the BBC or anyone tell me where they get their figures from. Please don't tell me to switch as most the comparison sites recommend BG.

£522m sounds like a lot (it is a lot), but BG have about 8m residential customers. So that's around £65 profit per customer, or about 5% on a typical dual fuel account.
Your local supermarket probably makes a lot more than that from you in a year. Cheap easy headlines. No free lunch, and no free laptop

If these are averages that means there must be people out there who haven't had an increase in their tariffs and have had more than 5% cut. Could you name one please?0
