Sending Faxes from laptop and getting fax number

Hello.

I find myself needing to fax several documents to several companies but I don't have a fax machine. Seeing as the need is there I figured I'd get myself set up.

Does anyone know of software that can both send faxes from my laptop as well as be able to receive and more importantly allow me to read them rather than storing them in some unreadable format that won't work on other people's machines?

Secondly, with a view to getting a more permenant solution, does anyone know where I can get a free fax number, preferrably an 01 or 02 number, that can either receive the faxes online or that can be set to send them to my computer?

Thanks.

Hussein.

efax.co.uk or godaddy.com - both offer outgoing and incoming faxes to your computer.

  • https://www.j2.com for fax to email service. Choose from literally hundreds of locations around the world. Free if I remember correctly if you take an 0870 type number but about a tenner a month if you subscribe where you can choose an area code locally.

    Thanks.

I eventually just set up the Windows Fax service, but can't send - for some reason it's not finding a dial tone, but this could be because I'm trying to connect the RJ11 port on the laptop to the BT socket of the microfilter?

  • Try https://www.voiptalk.org
You can get a local number that receives faxes for only £24.
There are other options for sending.
I have been using this for a few weeks and it is a great service

That should work. Try plugging in a phone into that BT socket: Can you hear a dial tone? Can you make a phone call?

In Control Panel - Phone and Modem Options, make sure 'Wait for dial tone before dialing' is ticked.
