cartakeback.com scrap my car + get tax refund possible?

Hi guys,

I'm new so please be nice :)

I sold my car on ebay recently but the winning bidder is ignoring me so I just want to scrap my car with it taking up space and is not insured and MOT is due friday. I only got £230 for it on ebay anyways and was thinking if I use cartakeback.com, will that mean I can get a tax disc refund as well? I have 6 months remaining so that pretty much gets me to the same amount as I made on ebay.

Also, is cartakeback.com reputable or are they a scam to watch out for?

Any help is greatly appreciated :)

They're ok, I've used them twice.
    Cash in the tax first.

I recently cashed my tax in and scrapped my car. Only trouble I found was these companies that remove your car wanted quite a lot of the scrap value. I used my RAC recovery and got them to take it to a scrap recyclers for me and got £197 for it. There was a little confusion over taking it as RAC said they only take to a place of repair but eventually they agreed. If you can get it to the recyclers instead of using one of these companies that do it for you prices are pretty good.
  • Oh so I should get a tax refund before I scrap it? Is it possible to do it afterwards? If I get a refund then scrap, how do I go about doing that? Am I meant to delcare it as sorn first? Sorry this is my first car and just bought another so not really sure how to go about all this.

I took the tax off mine, sent it back with the form

    http://www.direct.gov.uk/prod_consum_dg/groups/dg_digitalassets/@dg/@en/@motor/documents/digitalasset/dg_065248.pdf

do it before the end of the month.

I used car take back, they collected, and offered me a better price than the local ones if I took if there. The price on the website was the price I got, no haggling, just turned up, put it on the truck, and gave me cash.
I got the paperwork to say it had been scrapped the same day, and got the tax back from the DVLA.

(The bit on refund when you scrap is in section A in the link above.)
  • Oh sounds good to me! So basically I can do both at the same time and just send the v5 sectin 3 along with the tax disc? with that application form above Mikey?

We scrapped a car recently. Just rang a couple of small ads in the local paper was offered £200 by one and £220 by another and that was with the alloy wheels taken off.

Came same day, collected car, £220 cash handed over no problems.

Yes, it's worth sending a copy of the form the company will email you, stating it's been scrapped, mine came same day.
I also scan the v5 section before I send it, just to keep all the details.

Yes. It is now an offence to keep a vehicle (even if it is kept offroad and not used) without insurance unless SORN has been declared.

Oh my goodness, I didn't know that! We only changed the insurance over like 5 days ago. So if I don't declare it as sorn but scrap it like tommorow will we get into trouble?
