Survey Before Or After Making An Offer

My daughter wants to bid on a cottage type flat (Scotland) the closing date is this Friday - there are a few similair properties in the same area with varying asking prices at the offfers over system, shoud she pay for a survey before making an offer to give her a guide as to her price, as she does not have a large deposit or can she withdraw her offer if the survey comes out a lot lower than she has bid? any advice would be helpful

  • I'm a FTB - my own solicitor advised me that nowadays most Scottish properties are purchased 'subject to survey'; buyer and seller can pull out any time until the missives are concluded, especially if the survey dredges up something which the buyer isn't willing to pay to fix (although the survey still has to be paid for) Her solicitor should be able to advise...that's what they are paid for :)

    I went to see a property on Saturday which was new on the market on Friday, with a closing date of today. Not many would have been able to get a survey in that quickly, I'm sure.
