Hi - Could someone offer some advice on the following...thanks
A redundancy has been announced at my place of work. Just before it was announced we were advised of a new starter due to start the following month. Since redundancies have been announced they are still taking on the new person (contractual obligations) and putting them in the marketing department.
This seems to me that they have more rights than the current long serving staff as they have a job and some of us will not have jobs or will not be moved.
I'd really appreciate any comments - thanks !

Are they offering you the chance to apply for other vacant roles in other departments?0

Nope Nothing of the sort0

It sounds like they have contracted him directly into the marketing department, so they're not strictly doing anything wrong as the recruitment process was done and decided prior to the redundancy announcement. Bad form though.

Prior or post redundancy, in the UK, isn't the company legally obliged to advertise the role interally? My son is now an ‘entrepreneur’. That’s what you’re called when you don’t have a job. – Ted Turner0
