If you look for another job in your own hours, how will they ever know you are looking for other jobs? Just keep it quiet and don't tell anyone!

Zero hour contracts are complicated and as employment law is not explicit about their use (though you still have the usual protections) employers do often use use them to the detriment of the employee.

You are not doing anything wrong - it's just these contracts are hideous - my heart does go out to you, it's a horrible situation to be in.

Having said that I cannot see that in a part time contract of employment that clause would be enforceable. however the problem not whether they can enforce it in law but rather what would they do if they found out. But we are not there yet (and it may never get there - they may just use this clause as a threat rather than meaning for it to be used)

I agree, look for another role.

Post on the benefits board about benefits that you could get.
