Automated phone calls.

I don't know what is going on here but I have been getting calls on my mobile and landline for the past two months from a bank I am with asking me if I would be interested in all sorts from house insurance to upgrading my account.

When they rang on Sunday I was in the bath and I nearly broke my neck trying to catch the call thinking it was a family emergency.

I asked them to remove my number and to stop trying to sell me stuff as I am not interested.

They apologise and say they will remove my number but the call was automated.

Now I have reached the end of my wits as this is the 30th call I had had from the today on my mobile, (all calls are logged) and I am far from impressed as I am trying to wind down for the evening and watch Emmerdale.

How many times do I have to blooming complain?

    1. Complain officially via the bank's complaints centre and ask for compensation.

    2. Ask them to remove you from all marketing.

    3. Register with TPS and stop other people calling you too!

This is what's getting me I am registered with TPS and don't get any calls except from the bank.

I will ring them in the morning and make an offical complaint.

  • Sorry to hear of your problem I hate cold callers especially automated dialler ones! I just find out the info of the company (if you not sure who is calling try Googling the number if known or looking it up on WhoCallsMe site (and logging it for others to know who it is too is helpful) and send them the standard NO CALLS letter as found on MSE somewhere (I also think theres a copy on the NDL website you can adjust and print off). Hope this helps somehow.
    Best of luck.
    Thanks :)

If you are "with" the bank, TPS registration is irrelevant, as companies you do business with are allowed to call you even if you are registered with the TPS.

By "automated calls", do you mean that a recorded voice answers when you pick the phone up? If so, such calls are illegal unless you have specifically given permission to receive them, irrespective of TPS registration. See this page from the Information Commissioner's Office:
    http://www.ico.gov.uk/global/faqs/privacy_and_electronic_communications_regulations_for_the_public.aspx

I'm not sure a bank of which you are already a customer of can claim implied consent to receive automated calls.

Ultimately, if you are a customer of the bank, why not contact their complaints department? Tell them if you continue to receive marketing calls you will close all your accounts and report them to the Information Commissioner's Office.
