Changing my oil
Comments
-
When doing an oil change is so cheap (unless you own something which requires a special oil) I dont understand why people put it off.
I rarely wash/clean my car, dont look after it particularly well, but always do oil etc. Its too easy not too.0 -
This is what happens if you don't have your oil changed.

Hello
Get the oil changed ASAP.
Oil breaks down and breaks up, thus loosing it's ability to properly lubricate.
12 months is usually a good time to change (on average).

I have a 14 year old small car which I will probably use until something happens to it that is uneconomical to repair, and I want to keep it going for as long as possible until that happens. It's mainly used for short journeys and has a pretty low annual mileage. It gets a yearly full service, but I was thinking of taking it for an additional oil change at 6 months. Is this likely to be worthwhile or is it excessive and unnecessary?Let's settle this like gentlemen: armed with heavy sticks
On a rotating plate, with spikes like Flash Gordon

As above, IMHO, regular oil changes are the single most cost-effective way of keeping an engine happy. I'm convinced that the 6 monthly(-ish) oil changes were the reason why my old '97 Mondeo was still running like a sewing machine at 123,456 miles. The acquisition of wealth is no longer the driving force in my life.0 -
