access to business blocked

i arrived at my business premises this morning to find men digging up the access road. this is to fit electricity cable for the business on the opposite side of the road, i have not had any customers today as they are unable to drive into my car park, my car is covered in dust and cement type dirt, there is a ditch in the road which will still be there tomorrow when my delivery lorry arrives.

i have not had any notification this work was to take place, the chap in the other business obviously knew this was to happen but didnt have the decency to tell me. if my delivery lorry cannot
access my yard tomorrow where do i stand, i cant be without stock, i cant turn him away as its foodstuffs. who can i turn to?

The landlord or landlord's agent might be a good starting place?

Ring the council up as they have to register to do anything on roads etc.

This is very unfortunate. It is possible that notification was given through an advert in the local paper.

If you are not getting anywhere with the powers to be, I would be prepared to get trollies and planks and transport the delivery yourself over the trench so that your business is not damaged any more.
  • i think it will be planks and lots of hands to help. some people are just so selfish:mad:
  • Be sure to document everything with a diary and photos in case you take legal action for compensation.
