Advice from an electritian please

Hello,

Hope you can help :) we will be having a full re-wire donethis year.. but also the ceilings need to come down before hand.. we have old lime and larve and they have seen better days. At what point would you reccomend they come down? I have it in my head that a few weeks before we will put our stuff into storage , pull them down.. clear up.. get the re-wire done, then put the ceilings back up (new plaster board).. does this sound like the right way to do things? my partner is driving me up the wall with his own theory's lol

What is larve? Or do you mean lath as in lath and plaster?

Your plan is good, get the old ceilings down and debris cleared up before you get me in.
{Assuming 2 storey} I'll have great access to the ground floor lighting and 1st floor ring final circuits and get through the job in no time. Even better if you could move out for a week so I don't have to leave you some power on each night and keep replacing floorboards etc. Don't forget I'll have to come back to do 2nd fix of lights once you have ceilings back up.

I know some people who prefer to keep lath and plaster ceilings because they are are said to retain heat and and have better sound proofing than thin board.

    True or not! Don't know.
As surely as night follows day capitalism will come crumbling down. On a mission to secure a just and ethical society.
  • I would suggest (depending on costings) you insulate between the floors (it hasn't been done)

If you are removing the outer lath and plaster walls you can install insulated plasterboard (this is plasterboard with 30mm or 40mm foam on the back). This keeps the space behind - needed for ventilation and keeping the house dry, but helps keep the heat in.
    baldly going on...
