Third Party Admitted Liability...But I Still Need To Pay Excess

As the title suggests, I have this morning had complete admission of liability from the 3rd party, however when the repairs are completed my insurance company still want me to pay my excess to the garage and they will then claim this back via their legal assistance department.

My question is, is this normal?

Yes. Some insurers will apply a nil excess when there is an admission from the other side but some do not. I don't how may fall in each camp but I bet most work the same way as your insurer.
