Hi,

We pay quarterly on receipt of bill. Can you tell me if Eon want customers to submit meter readings just before a price change?

I did this last time when the prices went up on 13th September. I put the reading in online just before midnight on 12th, but they ignored it and estimated it.
Because there's a window of 14 days either side of when the bill is due, does this mean a submitted reading outside of this will not be used, and that's why they ignored my last one?

The electricity goes down on 27th February, but I don't know if it will be any good putting a reading online on 26th.

Thanks,
Candy

    Hi Candy53,

We will only use your reading if you are due a bill.

The best way is to enter your reading online through your online account on the 26th February, then request a bill you will be billed up to the price decreased.

Let me know if you have any other questions. :)

  • Submitting meter readings just before price changes become effective, as you have done, is an excellent idea. The bill can be split accurately to the readings before and after the price change.

If the suppliers system is unable to cope with this and has to generate an estimated bill it isn't your problem. What can be a problem is if no meter reading is submitted and the estimated usage on the bill appears to be in the suppliers favour. Disputing this can be tricky.

If you receive an estimated bill simply request to be re-billed to the readings.

Carry on submitting your readings before price changes, it protects you from overcharging due to inaccurate estimates.

Another one for the infamous 'reset'. :rotfl:

    Aren't your two statements contradictory?

    Hi Backfoot

Sorry if I didn't explain clearly.

We have a billing window which runs for 14 days either side of the next bill date. Meter readings received outside of this window are recorded but not used for billing.

Readings received within the window automatically create a bill.

Therefore, if the OP entered readings outside of the window, they'll not be used and estimates will be used for the day of the price decrease instead.

However, we're always happy to re-bill an account to accurate readings. Consequently, customers can contact us with the readings for the day in question and we'll make sure they're used.

Alternatively, we have a Real Time Billing facility on our website. This allows customers to enter their readings on the day and request a bill.

    Hope this is clearer.

Thanks Amy, that's straightened it all out for me.
Thanks 'Directdebicle' and 'Backfoot' for your replies.

Yes, it would be a useful thing to set it up on their computers to accept readings for price changes, keeping the bill accurate.
