Fantastic!!...:).I'm in a house on top of a hill in West Central Scotland...AND I have cwi !!!! Now I really don't want them back to refill it!

Interesting though that they haven't discussed why they are coming back to refill .... I'm thinking that that's an admission of some liability huh!? They haven't discussed any other reasons for the damp. They certainly never highlighted any potential problems when they installed way back.

However I now have a problem and not 100% sure of my solution. Yes I'm thinking removal but dunno if that's possible cos dunno what it made up of. Also need dried out and redecorated! Think I need to pin someone down in their office to discuss this further.

    Yes you need to take a firm grip on their vitals and make their eyes water. Start by looking at the trade associations they belong to on their website and also they should also belong to one of the following;;
    The National Insulation Association (NIA)
The Cavity Insulation Guarantee Agency (CIGA)
The British Board of Agr!ment (BBA)

start by suggesting if they dont sort it you will be writing to the said organisations including Trading Standards.

OK, so the guy was here yesterday to take the "thermal imaging" photos and he will send me his report by email tomorrow.

In the meantime, I emailed the cavity wall installers and asked them these questions....

...So, I would like to receive a response to this email - in writing (email is fine) with answers to the following questions. Until I receive satisfactory evidence that the new insulation will solve my dampness, I would request that you do not do this.

    1. What has caused my damp patches?
    2. Why does the insulation need to be redone?
    3. How will this new installation solve my damp problem?
    4. Is it appropriate to install the insulation before the dampness is fully dried out?
    5. Who will pay for any dampness treatment and redecorating of my now damaged hall wallpaper?
    6. Please explain why my house was appropriate to have insulation installed - as per the original survey.

I look forward to hearing from you by return, certainly before the end of this working week.

    I got this response....

    • The damp patches are caused by an area of light fill in the cavity. This allows cold spots to form on the wall and these can in turn lead to moisture forming.
    • Once the area has had the insulation topped up these cold spots will be eliminated and the moisture will disappear. As the problem is caused by moisture rather than water ingress to the cavity there is no issue with carrying out the work immediately as planned.
    • We will meet the cost of the insulation top up and have instructed a builder to assess the work required after this has been done to remedy any interior decoration required in your hall and to ensure the work is completed to your satisfaction.
In response to your query regarding why the property was insulated originally, this was due to the property being identified as traditional build and therefore deemed suitable. This remains the case.

I would like to apologize (sic) for the lack of communication we have provided whilst progressing your complaint. Your experience has fallen short of the standards of care we strive to provide for all our customers.

So, what do you think - do I go ahead and let them in - its now next week by the way I got the date wrong.

    thanks:)
