Virgin train seat allocation

Does anyone know if there a fixed order that Virgin reserve their seating by coaches.
I've just booked on the Glasgow to Euston service from Preston and have been unable to reserve seats. If poss I want to board the coach which is most likely to have available or unreserved seating. There's nothing worse than piling on with a suitcase to find every seat in the carriage is reserved.

What type of tickets did you buy? if they are Advance tickets you should have had compulsory reservations as well. If you got Anytime/Off Peak/Super Off Peak Tickets then just go to a railway station (Soon better than later but at least 2hrs before) and ask the ticket clerk to book some seats on the service you want to travel on or you could phone Virgin customer services 0844 556 5650 and book some seats that way.

If for some reason the train is fully reserved then coach E (Glasgow Central HL to London Euston Pendolino) is normally the unreserved coach, ask the platform staff what part of the platform coach E will stop at and position yourself so that your first on, best of luck you might catch some seats as people get off at Preston.

They are off peak returns. When I've had these tickets previously, they have come with seat reservations for my chosen service. I'll follow your advice though, thanks.
