mobile home in garden

I have been asked by my neighbour who does not use tinternet to post this question,so I dont know the exact details,
basically
he is unemployed on benefit and (the gov pay his mortgage)also gets a carers allowance for looking after his father(different house) his brother has asked if he can put a mobile home in his garden for occasional use when brother is visiting father,
will it affect his benefits as no rent etc would be paid

hope it reads ok
cheers

  • No it wouldn't affect his benefit. You can still claim benefit if you own a mobile home or have one on your premises. You can have relatives come and stay at your property as long as they don't pay rent or contribute to the bills or move in permanently. The only thing that would affect it is if he starts letting it out for money.

Why not ask on the housing board if there are any planning requirements or conditions the local council may have with the installation of a mobile home? There was a thread on there a few weeks back on this topic.

Council planning department might have something to say about it. You can guarantee that at least one neighbour will put in a complaint.
  • A touring caravan would probably be easier (cheaper, easier to transport, no planning required, not subject to council tax), assuming there are no covenents attached to the property forbiding storage of caravans at the premises.

I live on a new estate. One of the covenants is that the parking of any caravan (tourer) or mobile home is not allowed. Each property has two parking spaces for cars only.

I have no idea how you go about changing this, but nobody takes any notice of the rule.

As a matter of interest who would one complain to of breaches of the covenant?

Will the caravan get electricity or other utilitie services from the main home?

If so, won't the brother contribute to these costs?

One brother is on JSA and gets carers allowance, so assume a low income house. Why can't the other brother contribute to the utilities cost used?

I would hate to be the neighbour to this arrangement.

As you are not part of the family and clearly they listen and trust you, can't you raise these points?

How about no longer being masochistic?
    How about remembering your divinity?
How about unabashedly bawling your eyes out?
How about not equating death with stopping?

wouldn't a blow up mattresses on the sitting room floor be much easier all round for when the brother comes to see their dad?

That would be the covenantee or the grantee of title. Check your deeds who the land belonged to prior to you it should say who created the covenant.

If that person is not interested in enforcement, I don't know but wouldn't think there was anything you could do.
