In that case you are classed as an independent student and it is your own income and the income of your spouse if you have a spouse which is taken into account.

Is that income for the year of being a student, or income for the year previous to that?

Income in the year you are applying for a loan I think, i.e. prior to being a student.

My boy just gone uni in Sept 06 uses loan to live on, tuition loan for fees and I pay his accommodation £3.000pa he works at asda in the holidays and gets cash for birthdays. Should be cheaper when he moves into shared house this year. Fill in application in plenty of time as L.E.A take ages. No grant was available for us as we earn too much, oh rite I might sell one of my Mercedes then or was that kidney??

LEA time taken to turn around very much depends on where you live. I've never waited any longer than 2 weeks here - even when applying 'late' (I HATE tempting fate and applying before I know I've passed the year!)...
