in Credit cards
Hi
Im trying to buy something off an american website but it wont accept payment from my credit card. It comes up with the error message "AVS mismatch, delivery address does not match billing address".
I buy stuff online all the time and have never had any problems making payment.
Ive phoned the company in question and all they say is that theyve tightened their overseas payment to prevent fraud and that my addresses must match exactly. But it does
The company say that I AM putting all my address details in the correct fields.
Ive tried paying with someone elses card but have the same problem. Ive told the company that it must be a problem with their system but theyre not interested. They dont take many overseas orders and they wont accept any other method of payment.
I really want the item im trying to buy. Does anyone know how to fix this 'AVS mismatch' problem?

Do you have a flat position mine is 0/1, and I was putting that in. The company advised me to change it to "0 of 1" then my property number and street, etc.. Then it worked.0

I get the same problem with Barclays on some sites. I enter the address exactly as it says on my statement and it still gets refused with a 'Address mismatch'. Talked to Barclays and they agreed my address is stored exactly as shown on my statement. In the end I gave up and went elsewhere. I had the option of using my debit card instead, but prefer the security of the CC.
If you really want the item, have you tried using your visa debit card?0 -
I dont live in a flat so it cant be that...
I'll try the visa debit and take the risk of no protection...0 -
You do have protection with Visa debit, if the service or goods are not supplied you can request a chargeback.
I know how the system works to verify address and it is done on the basis of the numbers in the address. It could also be a problem with your post code. An example is flat 0/1, 1 anystreet, anytown, an1 1nn. The numbers 01111 would then be sent to authorise the address with your bank, through a merchant bank, in the order they appear.
I would try changing the details and putting them into different fields and see if that makes a difference, I take it you have put your post code into the zip code field. Maybe the street numbers needs to be in seperate field.
Hope this is of some use to you.0 -
Do they take Paypal? You can set up paypal to take the money from you credit card, which I think would still give you the protection. You had me at your proper use of "you're".0
