  • I can't give you a list of those who do paperless statements but I can tell you that Barclaycard are refusing to give me paperless statements. When I questioned why they've twice told me that 'as a financial institution they are legally bound to provide paper statements on all accounts with balances owing on them'. I've never heard of this before and I work in the financial sector. I will be checking this out with the FSA and responding to Barclaycard about this, as when I asked Barclaycard to provide me with the legal statutes which say they must provide paper statements they were unable or unwilling to do so. My advice is stay away from Barclaycard if you want to be paperless or environmentally friendly with your statements.

Bank of Scotland and Capital One offer paperless, although I refuse the option, as when it comes to banking I prefer the paperwork printed by them, then there's no dispute.

  • I.F offered paperless credit card bills. I think Mand S did too. I prefer the paper in case my ancient computer gives up the ghost.

Paper = cost and waste, both unnecessary commodities in today’s world and IT structure. A bit like the internal combustion engine, over 50 years out of date, thanks to capitalism and consumerism, certain modern technologies never progress in their own right to benefit the world.
Since when has the world of computer software design been about what people want? This is a simple question of evolution. The day is quickly coming when every knee will bow down to a silicon fist, and you will all beg your binary gods for mercy.

I totally agree with you Proliant; would that we could trust the banking sector not to use any errors thrown up as not provable, as you only printed their PDF version on line!

Egg is paperless, as is Tesco (and I therefore presume other RBS cards) once you register for online access to your account.

I like the convenience of paperless statements but I'm quite a conservative old fashioned person and still prefer to have printed statements in the post. They feel more official than online statements and I could rely on them even when my laptop go broke!

One thing to bear in mind if you're going paperless:

When applying for credit, opening savings accounts, current accounts etc., the new provider may ask for original statements as proof of your identity. Most institutions do not accept internet statements, as they are not classed as originals. If you require an original, you'll be charged a fee for the privilege.
