Sudden jump in consumption

Hello
I have just noticed on my elec bill a sudden jump in my consumption .
On average between aug - dec last year I used 404 units.
Jan and feb this year I have used over 1000 units!!!!!

Anyone have any idea what may cause this.

Btw am with British gas.

  • Hi,

maybe an actual reading catching up on previous estimates?
  • All reading are actual readings.
  • Hi,

oh well, what type of heating, water heating?
  • Heating is gas powered. Nothing has changed from sept to now! Just seems odd that I am suddenly using 500+ units more a month

In the summer months you will use a lot less power, as lights and heating are off, tumble dryers might be used less as hanging washing outside is an option, etc etc. How does your usage compare for the same months of the previous year?

That is a lot...Heating is the number one cause. Do you have even just one electric heater maybe in the conservatory? What about a clothes dryer used a lot?

Back up immersion heater switch left on 24/7?
In a home with gas CH and DHW, I'd expect electircity usage to rise maybe 30% in winter-not to more than double.
