Ramada Cancellation Policy

Hi,
Im not sure if this is the correct board.
Back in october I booked 2 nights in a ramada hotel. It was through an offer that I seen advertised on the forum, £20 per night.
My wife and I are due to go to the hotel on friday, however we arent in the position to afford a weekend away at the minute, things are really streched at present. I decided to cancel the reservation.
There was a link provided in the conformation email for "Reservation Retrival & Cancellation" however when I follow the link I find the cancellation policy....
"There will be no credit or refund for early departures, cancellations, no shows, or changes in your reservation for any reason. Guests will not receive any refund or credit."
That is all the info I have can find re: cancellations. No money has been removed from my card. However if the £40 is removed this will but me overdrawn on my credit card.
What I would like to know is if I cancel today can they still charge my card?
Thanks
P

these deals tend to be none cancellable, therefore they will charge you the £40 if you don't turn up. I've done the De Vere deal for £20 and not showed up. They just charge the card the day after. This is a system account and does not represent a real person. To contact the Forum Team email forumteam@moneysavingexpert.com0

Let's look at it from their point of view, they could have potentially turned away other bookings because you reserved the room and now less than a week to go, you decide to cancel.
There's a lot less chance of them getting full price for the room, so yes it's justified and yes they will charge the card.
Probably a good idea to read the cancellation policy next time.0 -
Usually with these bargain hotel deals they charge the £20/40 upfront, and won't refund.0

Places offer these deeply discounted rooms (and £20 for ANY reasonable hotel is DEEPLY discounted!) in promotions where they will block out the room for you knowing the payment is guaranteed (and hoping to get you eating in the restaurant, etc!).
However, PHONE THEM NOW! Talk to reservations. Tell them you know you're expecting to pay them £40 for the room, however you cannot take the room up. Tell them they can release the room for any last-minute bookings or walk-ins, and if they do manage to sell the room (which they will only do if the hotel is full, they will sell their other empty rooms first) then they can refund/not charge you the £40.
This works well for the hotel - if they can re-sell the room (if they are full) they will re-sell it at retail rates (maybe £100 for the room), so will make more on the deal, but if they cannot, they still get that minimum payment you already agreed. And it means you have a *chance* at some cash back, cash you certainly won't see if you don't call and ask.0
