Money Club Scam Warning -DON'T DO IT!

Please don't fall for the same scam as I did....
In November I got a call from the Money Club, the deal is that for a fee, the will guarantee to beat the price you pay for a whole range of goods. I was wary, but friends had just joined a holiday club and got genuine savings and the MOney Club offered a 2 month free trial and guaranteed to save me £250 in my first year, so I went for it.
A few weeks later a swish package arrived with membership cards and a CD Rom. I loaded the CD, went on the website and discovered that the savings were no better than, and mostly worse than Quidco, Greasy Palm etc. Also many goods were misdescribed, for example a 32inch Samsung LCD TV was advertised at a seemingly good price, but when I looked the model up on Samsungs website, it was a 23inch model!
After Christmas I went to formally cancel, only to discover they had already taken money out of my account. They have now refused to refund it, saying I didn't respond within 8 weeks, even though I did (in fact the agreement was 2 months). This is academic as they breached their guarantee as they can't save me money. They have also refused to cancel my membership and remove my details from their database until the end of the year. Lastly, they sent a letter which mentions previously undisclosed terms and conditions and a direct debit agreement, though with no reference to the Direct Debit Guarantee Scheme, which I though was a requirement.
DO NOT TOUCH this company. They do offer you savings, but no better than you can get for free and they are scammers, selling wrongly described products. Now I have to go to the hassle of starting recovery action which is annoying, but I'm mostly mad with myself for being greedy and trying to beat Quidco offers. Don't fall into the same trap.

Are you saying you signed up over the phone? Did you purchase anything from them?0

Hi,
Yes, I signed up over the phone and no, I didn't buy anything from them. Most things were available with better deals through Quidco etc. and the only other things I was interested in turned out to be wrongly described (e.g. the TV).0 -

I remember this bunch of jokers.
Promised me they could save me loads, I quickly found out that they were usually worse than I could find myself (without joining their club).
Luckily I had a free period and cancelled within days of it starting. They had even offered if I could find something cheaper they would give you money back, I didn't bother pressing for that.Toyota - 'Always a better way', avoid buying Toyota.0 -
