MOT help

My car went for MOT last thurs.. on Sat I was driving the wheels locked and I nearly had an accident.. I took it to another garage who told me my wheel bearings were knackered and one was almost hanging off!!

Can I take this up with the MOT peeps?

I haventa clue about cars so dont kno if this should have been tested or not?

Did you need any repairs for the car to pass the MOT?

If the MOT garage didn't take the wheels off they wouldn't have known there was a problem. I don't think they have to check anything beyond the legality of the tyres for the actual MOT, but could be wrong.

I called VOSA I had been tryng all day but no answer..

When I got an answer they said that the bearings are a substantial part of the test and are a cause for fail if found to have excessive rubbing..

only prob is their idea of excessive may not b my idea of excessive and vice versa..

I needed my front caliper done and a tyre to pass.

If you want VOSA to do anything then you must not make any further changes to the car until they've had chance to inspect it. If you appeal against the issue of the MOT, then a Vehicle Examiner from VOSA should attend to assess the car. You must appeal within 28 days - number's on the back of the MOT certificate.

Took the words right out of my mouth.

The front bearings ARE part of the test,and I find it fairly impossible for bearings to collapse so soon after the mot.Any failing of them,would have been heard during the mot.

I would protest about the original test to VOSA,and let them deal with it.

Thing is, why would you want to appeal a car passing the test?

Even if the garage missed dodgy wheel bearings - and they are a part of the test - there's no suggestion that they actually broke them, is there? So because of the garage's mistake, you have a car with an MoT, which you wouldn't otherwise have, but which needs repairs that you would still have to have done.

Obviously it would have been better if they'd picked up the safety-related issue at the time but apart from the fright it gave you, you've not actually lost anything.

let vosa take the mot station all the way, you might have got a fright but you also could have ended in hospital or worse. get rid of the rogue test stations i say, lives matter not cheap mot`s
