Barclays Insurance - Trying it on!

Last year we decided to get a quote for Barclays Home Insurance, as they were offering to give you £50 if they failed to beat your renewal quote, and beat the quote by £1 as well. Sure enough they were dearer, but agreed to beat the quote and give us the £50.

Some weeks later they wrote to say that their quote was not 'like for like' so they would not be giving us £50. Instead they wanted more money. As wer were well aware the terms were identical we protested, threatened them with the ABI and the Ombudsman, and they gave in and agreed that cover was the same. They then sent us the £50.

Last month MrsS's car insurance was up for renewal. Barclays were making the same offer. They quoted, on an exactly 'like for like' basis, a premium of £295. The renewal quote was for £218, so they agreed to do it for £217 and send her £50.

On Saturday whe got a letter from Barclays. (Sound familiar yet?) They claimed the insurance was not 'like for like' and wanted an extra £94. This despite the fact that they had issued their policy and schedule on the basis of the renewal from the old insurer, which they had been supplied with. On ringing them, they claimed never to have had the old policy details, despite having quoted from them! Then they claimed 'business use' was not included, and when that was disproved they claimed it was due to an extra driver (me) not on the old policy, although it was all perfectly clear.

She WILL get the quoted price for the right cover, and she WILL get the £50. So why the hell do Barclays try this on to stop people getting the offer they advertise so widely? Needless to say, they will not be getting any repeat business. What a shifty shower of idiots!
