British Gas
I'm not sure I'm in the right area but if someone can help. Last month I recieved a letter out of the blue from debt collectors BCW saying that I owed Brisish Gas £189.43 from a property that I moved out of over 2 and a half years ago!! . I contacted British Gas and the lady informed me that the account was zero and that the debt was over 6 years old and that I wouldn't be liable regarding The Limitation Act 1980 Section 5.
However this week I received a letter from British Gas saying that I am Liable for the debt as when they replaced a key meter in 1998 "the arrears were not programmed onto your meter for recovery"
As I was on a pre payment I didn't realise this as I just put my key in to charge the meter. So the question is am I liable for this outstanding amount even though Bristish Gas have admited it was due to them that the outstanding amount wasn't put on therefore more than 6 years have elapsed and why when I left the property wasn't this outstanding debt brought to my attention!!!
Many Thanks

As you have had two conflicting answers from BG I think your best bet would be to get on the phone to Energywatch0
