Wood oil for me every time!

If you pick one that is suitable for use on kitchen work surfaces then you should have no nasty chemicals on the banister to put your hands on.

It does not need to be sanded off when it is worn, it can just be re-oiled over the old stuff.

It avoids that shiny varnish look.

I have a clear waxed wooden breakfast bar - oak butchers block and it is the biggest pain in the ***** ever - it marks all the time and as soon as you put anything on it you seem to get a ring!

Quickest way (and most economical!) ifor applying oil is to use the disposable sponges for doing the dishes (non scourer side!)- seens to work really well and is realy quick. I did the whole of the inside of a summer house in an hour or so on Sunday! Just go with the grain and if you want a really durable finish then apply a couple of coats.

    Puss
