Dell 1320 Printer - Toner Override?

I've got a Dell 1320 colour laser printer for work-printing when at home. I've had it a couple of years and got frustrated when it suddenly tells me it's 'out of toner' and refuses point blank to continue printing, despite the previous sheet being printed fine.
When it recently told me this, I Googled and found there is an override for using non-dell toners which allows you to continue printing - hurrah!
So I've been printing happily for the last week, no sign of the toner being low at all. Tonight though, it has decided the black toner is empty. I've tried tricking it into think I've put a new cartridge in, switching off then back on the override but it's not changing.
I thought once I'd set it to the override I'd be able to continue printing until I decided it needed new toner, but somehow the printer still thinks it knows best, aaargh!!
Is there another override I can try? Need to print lots more by Thursday and can't face going into office tomorrow to use the slooooow HP inkjet there.
Here's hoping, thanks!

If you've already used an override, you are probably really out of toner!
You could try taking the toner cartridge out and giving a gentle shake from side to side (not enough to create a toner explosion though!).
That might put toner over any sensor the cartridge may have and fool it into thinking there is a little left but it depends on how the printer detects the toner is low.

Different printers use different detection modes,
some use the amount of pages, which is carp, thers have a sensor which monitors how much toner is in the tank.
nearly all call low toner well before they are empty lol

Thanks all - it's just frustrating that it was still printing perfectly, no sign of being low on toner and the black was coming out very black still.AirCooledHeaven
Are those chips reusable, or does it just reset it once and then when you actually come to change the cartridge you'd have to have another chip? Interested in the concept as I'm certain there's toner left!0 -

The reset chips are single use, so their suitability depends on how much toner you think is still remaining when you get the toner empty message, and of course how much a new toner cartridge is. Where they are really useful is when you refill your cartridge yourself. You can buy toner and a chip for around 20 quid
