  • Yes.

Do we wan't want to be a society who only look out for ourselves and what benefits us?

Keep your honesty and morals and fess up.
  • It's very easy to say nothing but, as others have said, how would you feel if it happened to you?

Knock on your sister's neighbours door and get the ball rolling.

Humm, all depends on the type of dent. If it went down to metal I would say something, If it was a tiny mark I would probably keep quiet. Personally I have never understood why anyone would want to drive a prisitine car as you are going to be upset at some point. I have never had a new car, always driven bangers and if anyone dinked it in supermarket, well it would never worry me. Life is too short to worry about a painted metal brick - then again thats only my opinion..............

So if I've "never understood" why people have pride in their homes, and personally I choose to live in a crumbling squat, I'm okay to come round to your house tonight and brick your windows..?

And if I can't see the point in computers and I've "never understood" why people spend hundreds of pounds on them, you won't mind if I throw yours on the floor and stamp on it..?

    Your opinion stinks.
  • How could you suggest that you do nothing? Your nephew damaged a car and it will cost the innocent owner money to repair it. You should have told your sister immediately and gone round with the child to offer to pay for the damage. How would you feel if someone did that to you?

Own up - if the shoe was on the other foot that's exactly what you'd exepct somone to do, and you'd be pretty p*ssed off if they didn't wouldn't you.

Yes it was an accident, but that doesn't change the fact that the damage has been done.

  • Well you know you should tell your neighbour. But there's a world of difference between "should" and "will". Doubtless in the real world many wouldn't. But it'll gnaw away at you every time you visit your sister....

Go on, do the decent thing....
  • Have you thought that perhaps your sister's neighbour actually saw the incident and is waiting for you to own up? You really should own up and offer to pay for the damage caused. Next time you visit your sister, lock your car so that your nephew cannot climb in.

You need to tell the owner of the vehicle that your vehicle damaged what has happened.

The additional benefit of child locks in the back of cars is that you get to open the door for children to prevent them opening doors into cars parked near by or posts/walls. This prevents damage to your own car as well as other people's property. Your nephew is three, his biggest concern is when he next gets to spin in a circle and play chase, not what he might hit with a car door.

If your sister doesn't know that this happened then presumably you were the responsible adult looking after your nephew in which case the responsiblilty for the damage is yours.
If I cut you out of my life I can guarantee you handed me the scissors
  • Im by no means dishonest, I'm a scout leader in fact but if its a slight scratch it may have even happened in a supermarket when they parked their car or any other place where space is at a premium and just coincidence that you thought it was your nephew. If it makes you feel better tell your sister and if she thinks SHE should tell them (as its her son), let her and she should pay the bill as its her child after all and all you were doing was asking them to get out of your car...No Brainer, let her have the dilemma, although I see it as no dilemma at all.
  • I would keep quiet for now and if your neighbour notices and asks pretend you didn't see it and be all sympathetic... and see what happens :P if he asks, get your sis to go halves and if he doesn't your off the hook!!
