celyn90 wrote:That's a lovely idea! I'm not sure if it helps, but most flowers historically have meaning, so you might want to choose a sentiment then see what would be easy to grow. cel x

Don't pick "Bachelor Button" or you won't have much fun on the wedding night LOL.
I had never heard of seed paper, sounds lovely I hope you manage to get a good result and best wishes for the wedding and for a long and happy marriage.;)

What about some Alpine Strawberries? Late March, early April in normal time to plant but if a little later it shouldn't matter!

to keep the budget down, there are loads of vegetable seeds in home bargains (15p) and B and M bargains (19p), even at that price the cost will soon mount up.The sign of a wasted life is a tidy house, Welcome to the chaos!0

I originally wanted to make the invitations out of seed paper so that they could plant the invitation but this is looking to be too expensive.
So PLAN B is to include a little packet of seeds with the invitations - the only problem is I have only just started gardening having got myself an allotment but I don't know which seeds would be suitable.
The invitations will go out early April so it needs to be something that can be planted outside in late April or early May. Ideally I would like it to be fruit or vegetable seeds rather than flowers. It needs to be something that could be grown in a large pot for those that have yards rather than gardens. And just to make things even more complicated it would be good if the seeds were not tiny - I hoped to buy a load of them and then write the instructions on some paper, then fold it up with the seeds inside and write 'open me carefully' on the outside.
Any ideas or advice would be much appreciated - I don't want to choose something that is totally inappropriate for the time of year.

I know you mentioned you prefer vegetable seeds but when shopping yesterday with my wife we were looking at seeds and bulbs. My wife pointed out a bulb that produces the type of flowers that a friend of hers had as her flowers for her Wedding. I can't remember the name of it but we bought one so I can check later. The problem you'd have with this bulb is that they cost £2 each and are golf ball sized.
Of course, the point I am making is that there may be a smaller and cheaper bulb that produces flowers that are commonly used in bridal Bouquets. Perhaps the nicest part of this idea is that they'll flower year after year and remind your guests of your happy occasion.0 -
I think that enclosing seeds with the invitation is a lovely and original idea. I agree with r.mac and think herbs would be a lovely idea as that way everyone can grow them, even friends or relatives who live in flats and may not have a garden.
I hope you have a lovely wedding and that everyone likes their unusal invites.0 -
What about some lovely lavender?
The alternative is something easy like a cosmos which is really easy to grow and a lovely scented cut flower.

I love this idea ...my only concern is that it relies on all your guests having the same enthusiasm as you. It would be lovely if the seeds were something that they could grow and actually bring with them to your celebration...if it was the right sort of plant you could use them as your table decorations!I have had brain surgery - sorry if I am a little confused sometimes0

Try http://www.freecycle.org/ to see if anyone has a surplus of seeds they harvested & stored.
I love the idea - keep us posted.0
