Insuring Boyfriend on my car to get no claims discount

Hello all,

Wondering whether you can give me some advice!

I'm 22 and my boyfriend (25) is about to pass his test (fingers crossed). I've looked at getting him as the primary named driver on my car (and I'd get a new car) but we're being priced out at £1700.

He can become a named driver on mine, with me as the primary, for £700.

I know that this will earn him no years claims bonus but I have heard that often insurance companies will count such people for a no claims bonus on a dimishing basis. For example if he is insured for 2 years on my car he will get 1 years no claims bonus if he gets insured with the same company.

I no this is the case with Direct Line but unfortunetly the rates are horrendous for young drivers to begin with. At present I am with Admiral.

Does any one know of this happening with Admiral or any other insurance company (bar Direct Line)

Thanks in advance :)

primary named driver? bit confused here, as he would only earn a named driver discount with DL becuase you would be policy holder main driver, and if you bought a new car and drove that this would turn him into the main driver but if you dont inform the insurers he is the main driver that would be "fronting" and if discovered your policy void, and persued for fraud, and future insurance with the company refused and having to declair when looking for quotes that you have had a policy cancelled or refused in the past resulting in a premium hike.

what you can do is buy him a used car insure him as main policy holder and main driver and you as named driver (to fetch his policy down).

or insure him as named driver on your car, (but if he does more miles and uses the vehicle more than you this will be fronting).

i havent heared of insurers deminishing a named driver discount this can only be used with the insurer that provides it. go to another company it doesnt matter how many years Named driver discount he earned they will be lost. and he starts as a 0 NCB.

if he stays with the same company and earns 3 years NDD for eg, this will give him a discount how much much they are willing to offer as a no claims BONUS is totaly discretional they could give him 1-2-3 years NCB thats conditional i.e if he ever moves company they will deduct those three years and leave him with his earned no claims bonus of 1 year if he's been with them 12 months if you catch what i mean.
