Am I legally obliged to get it fixed before my next MOT, will it fail if i dont? It hasnt deteriorated since last yer !

Thanks in advance.

No you don't have to get it fixed as long as it hasn't got any worse, the advisory just drew your attention to the fault.
  • Well thats good news, just hope it doesnt have anything else wrong !!!
    Thanks

I've had the same chip advised for the last 3 years. Have been told its unlikely to get worse as its not deep enough.

Worth checking what cover you have with your insurance in case it does get worse? or if it can be repaired free?
  • I'd call up the insurer, everyone who is fully comp is entitled to Windscreen repairs, some charge nothing and some charge up to £20.

If its within the drivers line of view and bigger than a pound coin they refuse to repair and offer to replace which is usually a £50 - 100 excess.

I remember seeing a car that was having a new screen fitted for similar. I must say I was very surprised it had failed so be ready as this could be a fairly subjecive decision and the next tester might fail it.

If it's not too deep and you're worried by it they can usually be polished out. Kits to do it are generally around £25 and available all over t'internet.

I am going to the same tester that passed last years. The problem with MOT's is they are quite subjective on some things.
