Good thing I didn't need the money on a specific date and this should be the rule with most investments- ie to not be a forced seller but have some other cash to use in the meantime.
I intend to enter retirement with a multi-year cash buffer (index linked!) and plenty of other fixed income such as corporate bonds, gilts, and preference shares.
Equities will be sold down as a natural part of rebalancing as I blow the cash element on visits to Oddbins and holidays in the Caribbean.I am not a financial adviser and neither do I play one on television. I might occasionally give bad advice but at least it's free.
