Not making a lot of sense of this. You didn't download it into Word, you opened it in Word.
Save the completed form as a Word file, then create an email to the intended recipient and attach it to that email. Then send it.No free lunch, and no free laptop

Use "Save As" not "save"0 -
What other method is there? Resave it after completion under a different filename.
Obviously if the original file is read only, then you can't amend it in that form.
Are you trying to edit it from within your email program? If so, save the attachment to your desktop first and work on it from there. No free lunch, and no free laptop

i have tried 'save as' still coming up as a read only file
i am not trying to amend or edit it, i downloaded it, and clicked on open document and it came up on word, i did not select word.
after opening i just filled in relevant sections and now need to send it back.
please help

Do 'save as' but save as a different name as suggested above. If the word file is called 'word.doc' then rename it to 'completed.doc' for example. Its giving the read only message as that is what it is, renaming it cuts this.0 -
You keep saying that you've 'downloaded' the email. That does not really mean anything. What to need do do is save the attachment to your desktop or Documents folder and then do as above,
What email program are you using? No free lunch, and no free laptop

If you have an attachment and save it then you've downloaded it. Makes sense to me.0 -
