Car Insurance - what a joke...!

A friend was getting some ins quotes for their upcomming renewal. They are unemplyed and claim Carers Allowance as they look after their OH, who doesnt work due to illness/disability. The OH claimes disability benefits.

The insurance renewal quote was £1500. Yet when they said they worked in an office as "Admin Assistant" the quote came down to £500!

Seems silly that someone who looks after their ill partner gets penalised...

No chance of a motability vehicle? It's about the most MSE way to run a car imaginable providing they qualify. You put the fuel in and drive. that's about it.
  • Nah they don't qualify for the Motability car, sadly.

No. They are claiming DLA and InCap.
  • All car insurance companies class "Unemployed" people as a massive risk due to alot of people being drunks / druggies, or because they recieve a low income they do dodgy work for extra money.

My car insurance quotes drop by £400 if I change from Unemployed to House Husband

In that case then they are not normally classed as unemployed as they are not seeking work.

You could try carer or possibly retired. I would recommend they speak to the Insurer to confirm this (Some inexperienced staff may say they are unemployed, if they do politely ask to speak to someone more senior). Make a note of the persons name and the date / time in case there's any query in the future

Insurance companies must be preying on people claiming disability benefits mind you £500 if your working is a hefty price. Good luck I am sure you can find a much better deal. Who was the insurance companies that quoted £1,500 so I can avoid.

May be worth looking at this tool for other job titles you can legitimately use:
