talk talk problems

Hi,

Please can someone help me, I have just contacted Talk Talk regarding getting my number changed as I keep receiving calls from random people asking for me that is not my debt. They are asking for people who do not live in this house, and also that i have never heard off.

When I spoke to some foreign person on the phone was told I had to get a crime reference number, when i said that a crime hadnt been committed I was informed that in order to get this changed I would have to pay £50.00. I told her that i was not prepared to pay and then i could not get any further. I have had to turn the ringer off on my phone as the calls are coming in late at night and disturbing my children.

Any advice on this would be greatly appreciated.

Thank you
Melanie

If you're going to have to spend money to resolve it better to buy a handset that has a in built call blocking feature. Some Panasonic phones have this, allows you to block up to 30 number - useful to block any other nuisance calls.
  • Hi Melanie
This may not be a Talk Talk problem (well I hope it isn't as I am about to use them as my Broadband supplier!)
Some advice that may help is to go onto the TPS web site and register. Sorry I'm not able to post the link but g oo gle it ;-)

This prevents unauthorised calls coming down your phone line. It does take 28 days for the system to kick in but well worth it in the end as it also prevents nuisance calls for double glazing etc.
Also go 'ex directory' that's free too usually.
It sounds like you have foreign callers after money, and that could be why you were asked for £50. Don't start paying as you will never be able to stop them.

Maybe worth your while also investing in a whistle for a few pounds, as I know you'll love blowing it every time they call, especially as you'll accidentally be practising it very close to the phone's mouth piece!!!

    Good luck :rotfl:

It's quite a novelty to have a TT customer that is having problems that actually aren't being caused by them.

During my 28 years as a PO Telephones/British Telecom/BT Customer Service Officer, I could never have advised the use of a whistle on unsolicited or even malicious calls , as it could cause the caller actual physical harm.

However, since I walked out of the office on 31 May 2003... F*ck them. :)

PS. The TPS doesn't have any jurisdiction over overseas callers, but it's always worth signing up with them anyway.

Again, it isn't 100% effective, as some companies just generate numbers from those that are listed (ie. 01234 567890 is listed, so 01234 567000 to 567999 might also exist) and automatically ring all of them, but the mentioning that you are registered with the TPS and asking them to remove your number from their list (when they sell it on) does seem to give a significant reduction over time.
The acquisition of wealth is no longer the driving force in my life. :)
