And I'm not talking about their size!
The price has jumped in the last couple of weeks from 39p in Lidl on offer to 59p and now 69p on offer.
Elsewhere theg are a pound each.
Anyone know why?

Erm, because they are out of season?

yep, what they ^ said, it's just a seasonal thing, the prices will start going down again in April time. As most things are flown or shipped in (especially during the winter when no UK crops are harvesting) items like strawberries, tomatoes, peppers, cucumbers etc fluctuate in price a LOT throughout the year dependent on where they are coming from, harvests etc0

Check here:
http://eattheseasons.co.uk/Archive/cucumber.htm (red indicates when its in season. should be slightly cheaper when it gets a bit warmer as the cold makes things like cucumber hard to grow).0 -
$2cdn for a long cucumber yesterday. They weren't selling. Ours are trucked up from BC or California. That's the justification for the price.0

When you consider how far some ( alot? ) of food travels it makes you wonder how they manage to sell it at the price they do tbhVuja De - the feeling you'll be here later0

Thanks for a truly useless post.
This is one of the reasons I don't post here often.
I know they are out of season and have been for months and was asking if anyone knew why the price increased over a matter of a week when the item is out of season anyway!
Jenniewb thanks for the useful link.0 -
Article from 2003 here about all year long cucumber production in the UK

I would suggest that with cold storage and other countries hot houses only just going out of season, that that is indeed the case.
Maybe you think you owe an apology?Freedom is not worth having if it does not include the freedom to make mistakes.0 -

Considering the post above yours re year round growth in 2003 not really no.
Still seems strange to have price hikes to me.
Maybe I am more sensitive to this product as I use ive or six a week.0 -
