Mis-sold Halifax Ultimate account what to do?

Hi hope someone can help I believe I was misold a Halifax ultimate account.
My story begins when I broke down coming home from holiday to find out my AA cover only covered roadside assistance which only got me off the motorway.I have a wife and 3 children 14 mths,8 and 11 already distressed from an hours wait on a cold dark wet embankment on the motorway. The AA man informed me that I was only covered for roadside and was faced with a £400 bill to get home.Credit goes to the AA for trying to get me going but to no avail.A long story short I renabled my direct AA membership for £50 as I had been on relay for 17 years only to be downgraded this past year seriously lucky as I only had a week left on my frozen membership. After a total of 6 and half hours got my family home, the next day following 2 and a half hours sleep I went in to complain the lady I seen was helpful and took details and offered me £50 to cover the AA and £100 for inconvenience.I was in such state of physical and mental fatigue I said I would see my wife.Is this reasonable? when I joined this account I was assured it was like for like with my platinum account with TSB which it isn't if it was the AA man said he would have had me on my way a good 2 hours earlier.
What do you think I should do any thoughts greatly appreciated.

  • Hi dhuggybear

I'm not familiar with the Halifax and Lloyds accounts you mention, but from your post my understanding is that the Lloyds account offered Relay cover but the Halifax account only offered Roadside Assistance. Your complaint is that the Halifax lead you to believe that the cover was the same on both accounts.

If this is the case, I think the offer made by Halifax is reasonable, and you should accept it. If this goes to the FOS, Halifax will provide the leaflet explaining the account features as evidence that you knew the level of cover. Whatever you were told during the discussion will be difficult for you to prove, and FOS like to see evidence. Even if FOS were to be convinced that the cover was mis-sold, in my experience they would be unlikely to increase the amount of compensation.

It's your decision but I personally I would accept the money, use it to treat your family to a nice meal out and put what happened behind you.
