Rail season tickets

Hello,

I'm starting in a new position in London from April 2012, I'm moving to knebworth (Herts) next week. I have checked the quickest way by train in from knebworth to finsbury park, the on the underground to chancery lane.

What is the most cost effective way of doing this? Buying an overland rail season ticket and a separate oyster card? Can I get one ticket combined?

Very new to this! All help much appreciated.

Dom

Have a look at National rail Season ticket calculator.

Put London in the destination box and it will show a selection of tickets with prices.

I would consider a Knebworth to City Thameslink season myself, but of course it is up tp you.
City Thameslink and/or Farringdon are only a couple of 100 yards from Chancery Lane.
But you cannot use the tube on that ticket.

if you are thinking about a monthly ticket, then get one for five working weeks starting on a Monday and ending on a Friday. (this assumes Mon - Fri working)
Then next ticket to start on following Monday.
No need to pay for weekends if you don't want to use them.

Getting to Chancery Lane from either Finsbury Park or Kings Cross by tube is a pain - I'd try to see if there is an alternative station that can be reached more directly even if a bit of a walk is needed - or possibly a bus.

You can certainly get a combined ticket - whether that's any cheaper than separating the rail and onward journeys depends on how many of the latter you make - will you make any extra trips eg at lunchtime or in the evenings? You are going to need to do the arithmetic.
