best car derived van advice?

Im contemplating part exchanging my mid sized 1.9 car for a van for work, anyone any advice as I will be using it for long trips (500-700 miles per week) so it needs to be fast enough not to frustrate. Needs to be car derived & large enough to take some folding steps I usually put on the backseat and have roofbars to take ladders .

Budget will be under £9000 and I will be looking for low mileage and reasonably new as the intention will be to keep it for 3 years or so whilst my business is built up then replace with a half decent car.

Air con would be helpful as I dont fancy long trips in the summer without it!

I am looking at part exchanging my car and was/am looking at the Ford Connect crew 5 seater van or the 8 seater model.
Most of these are commercial and are +vat. I am not vat registered so I am looking at ones that come up from time to time without the vat. They are meant to be a good all rounder for work and taking the family out. I don't know all the good and bad points about the Connect because I am still finding that out but it may be worth a look.
