Car insurance Question

I may have to buy a second car. The thing is for the last 13 years I've been a named driver on my wifes insurance.
We have full no claims but if I get my own insurance will I have to start from scratch or will I be able to use our no claims discount?

You would need to start from scratch and build up your own no claims bonus, as the no claims bonus belongs to your wife. However if you tell them you have been a named driver on your wifes policy for 13 years accident free (and they will need proof of this) SOME insureres MAY give you whats called an introductory no claims bonus.

    Ring round and find out

Direct Line are one company (I'm sure there are others) who will give you a discount based on this. I'm not sure if ou start with some no-claims or just the cash equivalent knocked off the policy cost but it's worth getting a few quotes.
    Can I help?

There are companies out there who will give you some kind of introductory bonus for being a named driver on your wife's policy. Why not try her insurer first, if not their must be others. Worth calling a few of the bigger companies on their 0800 numbers to check.
